With a couple of upcoming show deadlines, I have put the progress of a couple of commissioned pieces on a brief hiatus and focused on finishing these two paintings. Earlier versions of each painting have been previously posted on this blog.

In the above painting, titled after the bird species and called
Song Sparrow, I really focused on feather detail because of the birds interesting striping. Also, the simpler background helps the bird to really look three dimensional. Unfortunately, photos tend to flatten out paintings a bit. The painting below is called
Sunlit Sanctuary and features from left to right - a gadwall drake, a hen wigeon, and a mallard drake. This piece is one of the most dramatically lit paintings I have ever done. and it was a challenge but I am happy with the results.

Peter,
The paintings look fantastic! I can only imagine how much better they look in person. I am continually amazed by your talent. Keep up the good work!
