2010 Texas Stamp Paintings

Here are my two most recent paintitngs. The wigeon can be seen in the blog post below in progress. It will be the 2010 Texas Migratory Gamebird Stamp. The Cedar Waxwings will be the 2010 Texas Nongame Stamp.

Both stamps and prints will be released within the next couple of months will be used to raise monies to acquire and/or enhance wildlife habitat in the state of Texas. Currently there is more information available about these paintings on my daily paintings blog. As the dates near for the release of the stamps and prints more information will be available as well.

New Print - Ending Rain

The new print has arrived! Ending Rain is a giclee on canvas that measures 16" x 24". A giclee print is an elegant, state-of-the-art reproduction that gives a vibrant color rendition of the original painting. Giclees are produced one print at a time and depending on their size, the intricate process can take up to an hour or more. Teal Reflections - 2011 DU National Package Selection

I was recently informed of some great news - the above painting, Teal Reflections, has been selected for the 2011 Ducks Unlimited National Art Package! The print will be distributed to Ducks Unlimited banquets and auctions throughout the country to help raise money for wetland habitat throughout North America. Ducks Unlimited invests millions of dollars annually into projects and land acquisitions to ensure that our children and their children have a place to enjoy the waterfowl that fill our skies each fall and winter. Each year artwork plays a vital role in their fundraising efforts and it is an incredible honor to be a part of it by being included in the national package.

The painting depicts a lone drake greenwing teal resting during the early evening hours. This shallow, marshy habitat is perfect for this smallest species of dabbling duck. Greenwing teal have always been a favorite of mine as much for their handsome plumage as for their exciting, twisting, turning flights.

7th Place - Federal Duck Stamp Contest

This wood duck is my entry into the recent 2009 Federal Duck Stamp Contest and it tied for 7th place. This is my highest finish ever and it was my highest point total ever. Winning the federal is one of the hardest things to do in the entire art world and, hopefully, I will get the chance to come out on top one day. Robert Bealle of Waldorf, MD won this year's competition with a beautiful painting of an American Wigeon. Fortunately, my painting placed high enough to travel with the top twenty on a national tour with the first stop being the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD.

Fern Ridge Redhead

This painting has been selected as the new 2009 Oregon Ducks Unlimited Sponsor print. A lone drake redhead rockets into the marsh at Fern Ridge Wildlife Area. I saw this scene during the Spring, which is why the drakes colors are so striking - it's breeding season. More information and the artist proof prints are available here.

Women's Outdoor Wire

Today was the first installment of a new monthly column to be published in the Women's Outdoor Wire newsletter. International Guild of Realism

I recently found out that I have been accepted into the International Guild of Realism, a website that showcases realistic artists from around the world. This is very exciting news and I look forward to my relationship with the guild and to the upcoming exhbition opporunities.

Salem Hospital

The Salem Hospital is building a brand new addition and recently began collecting artwork to be included in the project. My painting "Sunrise Ensemble" has been selected to be a part of the permanent collection. The painting will also be reproduced in three glass parts as a decorative portion of the nurses station. The painting was selected, in part, because it depicts a familiar Willamette Valley scene - a flock of canada geese at sunrise.

Pheasants Forever Selects South Platte Sunrise

The painting South Platte Sunrise has been selected by Pheasants Forever to be a part of their 2008 National Art Package. The prints will be available at PF events throughout the country beginning in April and will raise money for upland bird habitat in the United States. Pheasants Forever is dedicated to the conservation of pheasants, quail and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs.

2009 National DU Award

I received some great news today! The painting Evening Sprig has been selected to be a part of the 2009 Ducks Unlimited National Art Package. This is a fantastic recognition and very difficult to be accepted into as there are hundreds of entries. Basically, what the award means is the painting will be reproduced as a limited edition print and the prints will then be auctioned off at DU banquets throughout the country raising significant money for wetlands and wetland habitat throughout North America. The painting is also being considered for the Ducks Unlimited International Artist of the Year award. Voting for this will take place online and I will post information about how to vote as soon as I receive it.

Artist's Magazine Award

The Artist's Magazine recently selected the painting
"Reflections" as a finalist in their 24th Annual Art Competition. The winners and finalists will be announced in the upcoming December 2007 issue. "Reflections" is the same painting that was selected for this years Birds In Art exhibition.

Oregon Ducks Unlimited

The results from the competition for the 2008 Oregon DU "Artist of the Year" are in and my painting Winter Wetland (above) took first place out of roughly 14 entries. It will be reproduced as a limited edition print and used as a Sponsor incentive with the proceeds benefitting wetland habitat. Incidentally, the painting of a group of mallards, which was written about below, took third place and a painting by an artist from Eastern Oregon took second. I am looking forward to getting this painting finished for the upcoming Fall Festival in Lake City, Minnesota. There is still a deadline on it as it has to be shipped this week. Off to work I go...
