An African Painting (untitled and in progress)

The opportunistic vultures await in the tree top... The idea comes from a photograph that my aunt took while on safari in Africa and the idea was too good to pass up. Although there will be alot of detail in the painting, the simlicity of the image adds to the power of the moment. This painting is currently in progress.

Barn Swallows

This new 9"x12" studio painting depicts some barn swallows getting ready to fledge. They barely fit in their nest and are waiting for their mother to bring a meal. Soon they will be flying and catching their own insects. With the weather we've been having lately (snow, rain, and sleet) this painting brings memories of warm summer weather. Everyday for the next week, I am going to complete a postcard size study that will be auctioned off on eBay. Most of these will be completed first thing in the morning to start off my painting day and get me warmed up for the detailed work of my studio pieces. Here's the catch - each painting's opening bid will be $1. If you have been looking to make the jump to collecting original paintings, now is your chance. Each painting will average the size of a postcard; meaning they will be between 4"x4" and 5"x7". As an artist, I am always looking to grow and this should improve my studio paintings as these studies are a fantastic exercise in painting. Happy Bidding!

Black Lab Pup

Talk about puppy eyes! This had to be painted - his face is so full of expression. Normally, my paintings take many hours, but because this one is small (9x12) and has a simple background, there has only been a couple of days worth of work on it so far. It is almost finished with some of the finer details left to complete (like whiskers).

Canada Geese Painting is Finished

This pair of geese is foraging in a flooded pasture. The lighting of the scene is the maing focus of this painting which is being submitted to the 1st annual North Carolina Waterfowl stamp competition. The top 5 pieces will be announced at the Preview Reception of the East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival and North Carolina Decoy Carving Championships on Friday, February 8th and will remain on public display throughout the show weekend. The winning painting will be announced at that time.
